6th Grade Science and Literature

It is hard to believe that this is my 6th year full-time at St. Thomas!   Prior to my arrival at St. Thomas, I was Director of Worship at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Crystal Lake, and at the Newman Catholic Student Center at NIU in DeKalb.  Additionally, I taught many years in a Catholic school in Darien, IL, with 3rd, 7th, and 8th graders.   I earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of St. Francis in Joliet for Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

I currently reside in Lake in the Hills with my husband (who is an alumnus of St. Thomas) and Wrigley, our dog.  When I am not with the 6th graders, I enjoy sitting down with a good book and a cup of coffee, and of course, singing.

Hello, my name is Maureen Bingham and this is my seventh year teaching at St. Thomas the Apostle School. After teaching 4th grade for two years, I "was promoted" to 6th grade.  I teach math and social studies to both 6th grade classes as well as religion and language arts to my homeroom.  Before pursuing a teaching degree, I worked in the financial department for several large corporations, most recently as Controller for a prepress printing company. After volunteering in my son’s first grade classroom, I thought that a career in education was the perfect fit for me. I have always loved school and am dedicated to lifelong learning. I have a BBA from the University of Notre Dame in Accounting and French. I also have an MBA from DePaul University in Marketing and International Business. I received a Masters of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University in 2006. I have a Middle School Endorsement in Math, Social Studies, Foreign Language and Business.

I live in Lake in the Hills with my husband of 26 years and our two children. My daughter is a junior at The University of Chicago and my son is a senior at Marian Central Catholic High School. When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, music, movies, Notre Dame Football, theater, and attending my children’s plays and sporting events. I look forward to working with your 6th grade son or daughter this year.

8B Homeroom

8th Grade English; 7th and 8th grade Accelerated Math and Science

I have been a part of the St. Thomas faculty family for 20 years teaching accelerated math and science for seventh and eighth grade. For the last three years, I added a homeroom - the fabulous 8B - and eighth grade English.

My husband, Don, and I have lived in Crystal Lake since 1988. All three of our children are graduates of St. Thomas School which means that one of my daily pleasures is to pass their class pictures hanging on the school walls. Our oldest, Don and his wife, Linda – who happens to, also, be a St. Thomas graduate - have lived in Crystal Lake. This September they are embarking on a year-long backpacking adventure through the Far East to such countries as Thailand, Viet Nam, and China! Our younger son, David and his wife, Andrea, work for Kimberly-Clark and have transferred from Fullerton, CA (near LA) to Chester, Pennsylvania. Our daughter, Deanna, has followed in my footsteps and become a teacher. I consider myself so blessed because she was a fellow faculty member teaching fourth grade for three years right here at St. Thomas School. Now, she will be teaching in the Milwaukee area.

Assignments and news available through TeacherEase.

Hi, my name is Mrs. Cindy Ventrella.  I have been blessed to be part of St. Thomas the Apostle School for 10 years, a community of wonderful staff, great students, and very supportive families!  I moved to Crystal Lake in 1996.  My husband, Vince and I have been married for twenty seven years.  My three daughters are the joy of my life.  Rosa is 22 years old and recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana with a degree in Biomolecular Engineering.  She is continuing her education to pursue a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology/Cancer Research at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in downtown Chicago.  Her twin, Rina, recently graduated from the University of Notre Dame with degrees in Accountancy and Italian.  She has moved to Washington D.C. and is working as a forensic accountant with DeLoitte.  My youngest, Gianna, is 19 and is in her sophomore year at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana studying special education and political science.

I was born and raised in Chicago.  My sweet father, Mario, ninety years young, still resides there.  I received my degree from Loyola University in Chicago.  I love teaching science especially human biology and the health sciences.  I like to teach kids that science can be fun and interesting.  It makes me very happy when I see that my students are enjoying learning about science.  My other interests are cooking and gardening. Both of these are passions that I share with my dad.  Definitely family and food are a vital part of my life and Italian heritage.
